💞The Week in Review

Recap

My friend and guest Lany Sullivan brings hard won wisdom to the podcast. She talks about the tyranny of the term "selfish" and how it's largely self-inflicted following years of conditioning. That leads directly into the power of receiving, specifically when given a compliment. From there we pivot into the power Lany found in herself upon hiring a coach, not someone to save her but to help her see herself clearly. Find out more in her four featured episodes this week [179-182]

Then on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I share some pivotal moments for Every Day Genius. The EDG Butterfly Map begins to come to life.

On Friday [183] and Saturday [184], I share two sides of a Genius Imprint, that appear oppositional, almost as if they are different people. One is the Ideation Wing, full of creative juices and novel ideas, and the other is the Structure Wing, the one who executes plans and gets things done. Believe it or not, while you may have a natural tendency toward one or the other, both qualities exist within you. And on Sunday [185], I talk about One Wing Dominance, our tendency to favor the stronger quality, at the expense of the other. We're not looking for balance, we're looking for flow!

This Week's Guest

Lany Sullivan provides operational strategies for businesses that have outgrown their chaos, by helping established companies fix operational bottlenecks, build scalable systems, and turn growth into something that stops creating more chaos.

Monday: [179] The Tyranny of the Selfish Label

Episode 179 with Lany Sullivan

My guest Lany Sullivan returns. In this episode, she has realized the need for self-care but mentions how societal labels rear their ugly heads when something other than the status quo is honored. This time it's the tyrannical label of selfish.

Tuesday: [180] The Art & Necessity of Receiving

Episode 180 with Lany Sullivan

Lany and I revisit the tensions present in the paradoxical giving vs receiving and confidence vs humility. Lany gives the perfect response to societal pressures on women to reject compliments. "Just NO!"

Wednesday: [181] On Hiring a Coach

Episode 181 with Lany Sullivan

Lany Sullivan continues the conversation with her decision to hire a coach. It wasn't an automatic decision but one she had considered for years. The timing was right when it seemed all wrong, financially speaking. Sometimes, you just have to go all in.

Thursday: [182] Coaches Do Not Save People

Episode 182 with Lany Sullivan

My guest Lany Sullivan talks about how her coach helped her, held her hand, gave her clarity, but did not save her. Coaches don't save people. Lany expands on this by explaining how her choices brought their own consequences and that owning the responsibility for those choices actually empowered her.

Friday: [183] Two Wings: The Ideation Wing

Episode 183 with Michele Jennae

In this and the following two episodes, we'll look closer at what makes the EDG Butterfly Map so special, and we'll do it by mapping two Genius qualities in you. Ideation and Structure. Tune in to see where you are leaning...

Today: Ideation - curiosity, brainstorming, and creativity. But what happens when we stay here too long? This is a positive quality, but there is a downside!

Saturday: [184] Two Wings: The Structure Wing

Episode 184 with Michele Jennae

In this weekend's episodes, we are looking closer at what makes the EDG Butterfly Map so special by mapping two Genius qualities in you. Ideation and Structure. Tune in to see where you are leaning...

Yesterday we learned about the upside of Ideation - curiosity, brainstorming, and creativity, and its downside. Today we look at the other wing: Structure, and its upside and downside. They wings work better together because when they are operating in coordination, the downsides all but disappear.

Sunday: [185] Two Wings Together - Your Wing Dominance

Episode 185 with Michele Jennae

In the last two episodes, we talked about Ideation and Structure being two seemingly disparate ideas, but that like wings on a butterfly, actually work in tandem. Not both at the same time, but one and then the other and then one and then the other in flow, as circumstances require.

Ideally, we begin to allow the other wing to take over when the first one starts flagging. This will be discussed in future episodes.
