The Perfectionist at the Door

The perfectionist isn't your enemy. It's a guard dog trained on someone else's property.

It learned what "good enough" looked like by watching people who weren't you — teachers, critics, systems built for a different kind of mind. It internalized their standards. And now it stands at the door of everything you want to create, asking whether it measures up.

For the polymath, this is particularly cruel. Because your genius doesn't move in straight lines. It cross-pollinates. It wanders. It makes connections that don't look like progress until suddenly they do.

The perfectionist can't evaluate that. It only knows the ruler it was handed.

So it waits. And while it waits, the idea that was alive at 7am is lukewarm by noon and gone by Thursday.

Here's what I know: the post that doesn't get written helps no one. The thought that waits for perfect never arrives.

Publish the thing. The garden grows from what you plant, not what you perfect.
